FINDING MY SUFFICIENCY IN CHRIST
Thinking I had all my ducks in a row, I did not worry about the project I had the next day. So, I grabbed my purse, hopped in the car and ran errands. Actually, I was kind of proud of myself thinking I was ahead of the game. I had spent a few weeks working on my project and all it needed was a few finishing touches.
Well, so much for that thought.
Once, I gave it a go-over. It needed a whole lot more than a few finishing touches.
Whatever the reason, it just wasn’t coming together.
Interestingly, a passage I was looking at earlier in the day included a quote from the Apostle Paul. “Not that we are sufficient in ourselves to claim anything as coming from us, but our sufficiency is from God, who has made us sufficient…”
I had an opportunity to share some encouraging words from the Scriptures, but it just wasn’t coming together. The truths were there, but somehow there wasn’t a melding of the heart and words.
I read the words above “…not that we are sufficient in ourselves…but our sufficiency is from God, who has made us sufficient…”
I pondered what this passage meant and what it means for me to find my sufficiency in God.
I have no question that Paul could say this. But could I?
Yes, Paul was an apostle and had a special ministry in the proclamation of the gospel. But he tells us that we, too, are ambassadors for Christ and God is making His appeal to others through us.
Meaning as we live, eat, drink, mingle, work…or whatever we do, God is at work appealing to others through us.
Since there is only one Spirit, we have the same Spirit as Paul…and if that doesn’t move you, we have the same Spirit as Jesus!!
Let that sink in☺
We are partakers of the divine nature; therefore, He has made us sufficient for the work He has called us to do.
That doesn’t mean we have nothing to do. By no means. We are to be diligent in our faith making every effort to add virtue, knowledge, self-control, perseverance and brotherly love.
But we are assured “…if these qualities are yours and increasing, they [will] keep you from being ineffective or unfruitful in your knowledge of God.” 2 Peter 1:4-8
“For it is God who is at work in you both to will and to work His good pleasure.” Phil. 2:13
God is Paul’s sufficiency, and He is mine, too!!
I like that.
And if I may come full circle, recognizing that God is my sufficiency has given me confidence in my work as a mom, grandma, teacher, or friend.
I remembered His word, laid my need before Him and He helped me.
