GOT YOUR CUP OF HOT COFFEE? I am sitting here sipping on some hot tea with a pecan chocolate chip cookie on my plate remembering…
I love the sights and smells of Christmas. I love the sounds of Christmas carols, giggling and unwrapping presents. I love the memories. Go ahead, grab a cookie and let’s visit!
REMEMBERING…
BUILDING OUR FAITH …STONE BY STONE, because when we remember who God is and what He has done, we live better!
Last time we talked about Israel and how there are stones everywhere and how God uses something as simple and common as stones to teach us spiritual truth. When God would step into the lives of His people and do a mighty deed, the ancient Israelites were instructed to set up a standing stone. This stone would mark God’s activity in their lives. It would also serve as a reminder of what God had done, and when their children would ask, “What do these stones mean?” they were to tell them what God had done.
Of course, we know that we are suppose to teach God’s word, but have you ever considered that God also wants us to tell stories of His faithfulness?
Throughout the Old Testament, God reminds His people of their story. They were to remember that they were slaves in Egypt and how He delivered them with many signs and wonders. They were not to forget what He had done for them! Whenever they would get in a pickle, He would remind them. “Hey, I’m the God who parted the Red Sea… remember? I’m also the God who provided for you in the desert and fought for you in battle. How many times have I delivered you from a situation you thought impossible?! This is your story, remember it and tell it!”
Interestingly, in the New Testament it’s not much different. After Jesus rises from the dead, He tells His disciples, “You’ve seen some pretty incredible stuff…people walking on water, people being healed and raised from the dead. You’ve seen people in the clutches of Satan delivered. You have witnessed the power of God, not only around you, but in you. This is your story, remember it and tell it!”
With Christmas around the corner, maybe it’s time to reflect on your own “story”. What have you witnessed of God’s power in your own life? How has God delivered you? As we dig out the decorations and slip baby Jesus back in the manger, it’s a perfect time to tell our story!
