1914: Carroll Ave Baptist Church

| Pastor W. Helwig |
|
On July 3, 1918, the church changed its name to Carroll
Avenue Baptist Church. By
February 1920, the new church building debt was retired.
As the second generation grew up changes were required.
More and more youth could not understand the German language.
To accommodate them, in 1925 every second Sunday evening service
was held in English. By October 1933 all services were switched
to English except for a short German service following the
English service.
As the first 50 years came to a close, Rev. Wm. E. Schweitzer
was called as pastor and served from 1936 to 1941. Despite
the war and a year filled with trials, the congregation's
hopes were bright in 1942. They stood together in unity and
their prayers for a pastor were answered as the church called
Pastor W. Helwig (1942-1950) to lead the church into it's
next 50 years.
Twenty years later (1962) the congregation decided to relocate
to the then pasture lands of Lake Highlands. Ten acres
of land were purchased, including our present site.
